Find out which sunscreen suits your summer best !
As the memory of an excellent summer fades for those of us down under, Summer is just getting underway for our friends in the North. Every year there are a bevy of new products to try, each one promising to be the dream formula - but which sunscreens truely deliver? Fear not darling buds, I have pasted, lathered and bathed all Summer long to bring you the Definitive Sunscreen Guide for 2019.
The 'All-round-MVP': Natio SPF50+ Moisturising Sun Lotion
There are a lot of reasons to love this gorgeous new Natio sunscreen. As an Australian company, Natio are held to some serious suncare standards, so you can trust that the protection factor has been seriously formulated. A lot of high SPF sunscreens can feel thick, but this lotion is light, absorbs quickly and leaves skin feeling SO soft. A little goes a long way, and I ended up swapping my general everyday body moisturiser out to include this SPF in my body care routine. I'm a little fusspot, so normally I like to have seperate SPF for my face, but in the times where I was caught short/forgot, this sunscreen was an absolute saviour for protecting my face without leaving it greasy or blocking my pores. Like with non-sports sunscreens, if you're hopping in and out of the water, towelling down and spending the entire day at the beach, you will definitely need to reapply, but you may find yourself reapplying anyway because it feels so damn nice to put on. Whether you're trying to prevent lobster bod, or avoid ashy elbows, this lotion is a true all round MVP of the Summer sunscreens.
Number One: 'Natural/Reef Safe': ALBA Botanica Soothing Sunscreen (in pure lavender)
This little beauty was brought to my attention by a dear friend who is an avid traveller, an eco sweetheart AND a badass Doctor - I spent a good chunk of Summer asking to 'borrow a squeeze' of her gorgeous sunscreen. While this baby is a little richer than the Natio sunscreen, the overall effect os the same - lovely smooth application, quick absorption and soft soft skin at the end of the day. The scent is really subtle, but such a luxurious little detail that I hadn't really considered when picking sunscreen in the past. Top selling point? This baby is 100% reef safe, meaning it contains none of the chemicals that bleach coral and disrupt sea life. Heading off to a beachside holiday? Time to do a little extra reading on staying sun safe whilst protecting the natural environment.
The 'Best-Kept-Secret' Mecca Cosmetica 'To Save Face' 50+
For everyday protection, the To Save Face range is unparalleled. This little beauty sits perfectly under make-up, offers some Bb cream style priming, absorbs quickly and never leaves you looking pale. The hyaluronic acid leaves skin feeling fab while the overall finish is somehow matte AND glow-y. For me, this baby sits in place all day long, and is the ultimate all day, every day skincare with sunscreen. As if that wasn't enough reasons to race out and grab some of a tube, a little goes a long way - the 30ml mini is ideal for flights, gifts or just being in your handbag at all times. If you're missing sunscreen from your year round beauty routine, look no further than this Mecca Cosmetica champion.
The 'Instagram Made Me Do It':
La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL 50+
I'd love to pretend I'm above being influenced, but the more this baby popped up on my instagram, the less I could resist the urge to try it out. I wasn't expecting much of a pharmacy sunscreen, but this lil fighter came out swinging; light milky texture? Tick. Super absorbency? Tick. Compact, travel friendly size? Tick (and last all summer long). A little goes a long way, and the spreadability of the milk means you don't use a lot if you're caught short and need to protect your arms while you're out and about. The Anthelios XL comes in tinted and non-tinted varieties, and more than lives up to it's status as influencer endorsed sun-care.
Like most things in life, there is no one size fits all - my best advice? Pool together your pocket money with your besties, and try out a few that best align with what you need from your skin protection. As we say in New Zealand: Slip, slop, slap !
